Carrera tensioner o-ring "upgrade"?

In re-sealing the usual leak spots on my motor, I replaced the chain tensioner o-rings. I bought the replacement rings here, the Victor Reinz 12x1.78.

I could feel the interference fit the old rings made when removing the covers, and when I replaced the covers, having installed new O-rings, I noticed that interference fit on the right side cover, but strangely not on the left. I had bought a few extra rings as well, so I swapped that one out for another new one. Same thing, cover slipped right on, but I figured what the heck, I'd keep an eye on it.

Sure enough, that is the only leak I have now that the motor's back in and running, and it's a pretty good leak.

Has anybody else encountered this, and what should I use for a replacement? Does Pelican sell anything a little larger that would work? I looked on McMaster and I can get silicone rings at 12x2.0 at 50 for $10, but don't know if that size may be too big, plus I'd rather get something here, and I don't need 50 of them.

Any ideas?

When I R&R'd a tensioner a few thousand miles ago, I noticed the same thing, there wasn't much resistance from the new-orings (not nearly as much as pulling the covers off). But I'm not sure this o-ring does much for sealing, I believe the metal crush washers on the oil line bolt do much of the sealing - did you use new washers and is your bolt good and tight?

Otherwise, it sounds like your tensioner may have worn out the hole in the cam cover, and now it's slightly egg-shaped... Did you notice if the tensioner had worn the shaft it rotates on?

I noticed the same thing, not much interference. Went to the local O ring store and got a slightly larger size Viton type, no leaks. Some where here I posted on this but I don't remember if I listed the size.
