targa rear window shipping
hi
does anyone have an idea of how to ship a targa rear window? is there a shipping crate that either porsche or the auto glass people use? I did a search and found this on a search "Urethane foam. Big box, foam in uncured liquid form is shot in plastic bags and packed under the glass as it expands and cures thus holding it in the middle of the box. Foam expands, conforms to the glass and cures up holding it in place without any pressure points. More bags on top until box is full. Box gets framed in wood and strapped to a pallet. Insurance gets purchased." seems lke this could be re-used, does anyone have one?

We had one of those urethane foam machines where I used to work. We used it for packing, and I suspect it will work well for the Targa glass. Not sure how reusable it is, as sometimes the foam gets broken apart as it's unpacked (despite being in bags) because it gets formed around stuff and gets quite a grip.
Once we put garbage bags inside my friends beater car and shot the foam into them, filling the inside of the car :-) ahhh good times. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 336k miles |

Did you try calling the local auto glass replacement place and see how they get glass shipped in, and if they have any containers left over that you could pick up?

Problem is, not many of glasses shaped like a targa glass. I have shipped in the past, built a wooden crate, then some foam sheet, then bagged the glass & spray foamed.

I had a used one shipped to me in New York from California. The chap I bought it from used a large heavy duty cardboard box with about 4 inches to spare on each side. Put some spray foam in as well as several bags of those styrofoam peanuts. Was shipped UPS in about 4 days - a little pricey ($260 or so), but arrived safe and sound - a lot of "this end up stickers" too.
