Why?

My username always shows up as the last one at the top of the board...what gives?? It used to be listed by your sign up date?? Can't figure the bugger out now.

I noticed that today too. My guess is Wayne is exercising his God-like power over the BBS software and is changing settings simply because he can.

I do the same thing at work sometimes.

It's good to be the king.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/icon26.gif

Hey...I am always at the end as well. SmileWavy a wave to all the people ahead of me.

It sue to be that when you logged on, your name appeared based on the date you registered ie the earlier the registration date the earlier your name appeared in the list when you logged on.

Now it is ranked according to who logged on first, second, third etc. You will appear at the last person on the list since you logged on last.

Cheers

Folklore and bah-humbug. I'm the first registered user of this board, and I never was first on the list, so everything that you guys are saying is wrong.

It will always list your name last (as you see it - other people don't see it that way). I believe that it lists the people in the order that they have logged on during the day...

I haven't changed any settings, you guys have been breathing too many gasoline fumes...

Yeah, but it was 93 Octane....

My name always used to be first about 99 percent of the time, and I assumed that it was because I'd just logged on. Everybody said "No, that's because you're the longest-term user who happens to be perusing the board." Now my name is last 99 percent of the time, and it's obvious that it's because I just logged on. (The anomalous one percent occured--and occurs--when somebody else logs on near-simultaneously but first.)

Maybe you haven't changed anything, but what's apparent to me is that the software is--as I always suspected--listing people in the order of their logon and not in the order of their board longevity. It's simply now doing it in the reverse of the way it used to.

I'm with Stephan on this. When this came up some time ago I think we all watched really carefully and agreed that there was something going on that listed....oh bugger I got better things to do than write about this...................

emcon5 05-22-2002 07:49 AM

Stephan is correct, I used to show up middle of the pack, now I am last every time. This came up in another thread, and I checked the people in front of me and behind me in the list, and it appeared to be in order of registered date.

Tom.

Stephen and Emcon are both correct the current list is ordered so that the most recent logon is added to the end, If you watch carefully you will see your name scroll progressively towards the head of the list.

This is different from the old server, where names were listed by order of original logon.

I suspect but havn't confirmed that if everyone logged on and didn't leave, the list would be in order of original logon. in other words there are 2 sort criteria, first current session logon then original logon

I may also be totaly off on this last conjecture

My guess is it's just a hash table, and the values fall wherever the OS feels like putting them. That's the way I would have written it.
