I just vented the hose from the tank into the engine bay, tied a rag at the end with a zip tie so oil wouldn't "squirt" out, but so far (3 years) the rag is dry... Its just gases venting out.

you have a good engine , on my R-Gruppe car i have a double inlet , one from the engine and one from the tank. after 1 year of hard driving the tank is 1/8th's full as the engine does breath.

The crossmember is not completely flush to the body panel sheet metal - it’s open and you can wrap all the way around.
