Finally I got the new suspension pan in place!
![]() Anyhow - I will take the entire front suspension apart; everything will be cleaned and repainted, new bearings and new bushings all around. I've never done this before (I did the rear suspension last winter), and have slight worries about it... are there any pitfalls I can avoid, will I need special tools for some parts of the procedure, etc, etc? Enlighten me! ![]() Surely some of you guys must have done this several times! ------------------ 1972 911S Targa ************************ My project! Bo:
As I remember, you don't need any special tools to disassemble & assemble the front suspension. You might consider installing some grase zerks, so you can lub the bushings later on - especially if you are putting in polyurethane bushings. Also, when I dropped the front suspension on mine, I measured the angle (23 degrees) of the A arm with the cross member before taking the whole thing apart, so I could put it back together close to that angle & maybe adjustment would be minimal. ------------------ Marv Evans '72 911E |

I AM planning to install polyurethane bushings, but I have no clue what a "grase zerks" (or where I can get them!) is!

No, I don't really have any play in it. If it seems to complicated to remove the steering column, I'll just leave it as it is, and focus on the rest of the suspension. (I **hope** I can leave it in, don't really know, since I haven't started to take it apart yet)

I have considered polygraphit bushings for my 911 too*. However yesterday a german 911 owner told me that his had started to "tramline" (is that the correct english term?) quite a lot after he got the polygraphit bushings. Is that a common problem with 911s fitted with these bushings?
*I'm not sure if polygraphit bushings are the same as polyethane bushings??? |
