1969 911
I am buyining a 1969 911 and found out when I went to pick it up that the original trans had been lost, it was a 915A four speed. It now has a later 915 5 speed. The trans and engine are out as well as the axles. I have a 1972 911 I'm working on. will the axles from a '72 fit this setup? My plan is to take the axles out and see if they fit the trans, I'm sure it will but I dont know if it will slide into the wheel side or if the lenght will be correct.
please help as I burned a hundred dollors going out with my trailer and he allowed that I can research before I take delivery. |

Mike,
The '69 would have come with a 901 gearbox originally. The 915 gearbox should bolt-in without issue. Depending on the clutch arrangement there may be a combination of parts to ensure it works properly. Not a major issue though. Axles should be interchangable between the '69 and '72 both with length, flange and drive stub. Proof positive - from our host the same axle is specified from 69-73. The 901 was used through '71 and the 915 thereafter. Chet
