Color Code Plate?
I have a small, square plate on the forward door jamb, under the interior light switch. It says:
KUNSTHARZLACK 908-8-2 I'm assuming this is the color code. Does anyone have a reference to let me know the original color? Thanks a bunch! |
908 is Grand Prix White
Middle digit SHOULD be '9' for the Porsche company ... '2' means that Glasurit supplied the paint ... |
Can I get my paint code also?
It's 708-9-2. -Thanks Rob 1980SC |
Rob,
For '79, '80, and '81 models, 708 was Metallic Black |
where do you find this info? this way I don't have to ask you to look it up...unless you just want to. :)
516-9-1 |
H. D.,
Factory service manual, Volume VI, Section 8 - Body ... in my case, though there are several unofficial sources, such as 'The Red Book.' 516 is Sahara Beige, an optional 1976 color ... |
Thanks Warren!
Metallic black eh? Looks alot like charcoal gray to me. Thanks, Rob 1980SC |
Thanks Warren,
Why do you suppose I have an "8" instead of a "9"? Also, is Grand Prix White that eggshell tinted white that has a very, very mild cream hue to it? |
Kunstharzlack is Synthetic resin laquer.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

Grand Prix White is bright. It's the color on the majority of the Carrera RS's. Usually having blue or red script. The eggshell white color you are probably refering to is Light Ivory. Maybe the "8" means the car was painted by somone other than Porsche like say Karmann?

Oooh, maybe I have a rare car on my hands!!

Unless it was special ordered, I have never seen any evidence that Light Ivory (131) or Ivory (132) were even offered after the 1973 production year.
I have never been able to tell the difference between any of the Grand Prix White (908) or Alpine White (182) or later Artic White (L-90E -- a VW color) shades! Likewise with Light Ivory (131) or Ivory (132) or VW's Pearl White (L-87.3) ... Those paint tags were made by humans ... and like the many documented mistakes on VIN tags ... I'm sure a few paint tags left the factory with 'goofs' on them! |
