replacing ignition rotor problems !

I'm attempting to replace my dist cap and rotor. Cap came off fine. Rotor doesnt want to come off at all. Gave it a couple a knocks with rubber hammer, twisted from side-to-side (moves about 1/2").....nothing.

I lifted up the thin metal cover that's beneath the rotor and the shaft appears to be rusted where it meets the rotor.

Any ideas how to get this thing off ? Can I spray WD-40 on the shaft ? help !
thanks
Tim

WD-40 is not likely to help!

I suggest a large set of Channelock pliers to rock the rotor back and forth ... maybe to the point of cracking and fracturing the old rotor!

thanks Warren. I used WD-40 and got underneath of it with a screwdriver (being careful not to bend the shaft !). The channel locks were next.

Kind of concerned about the shaft being rusty. I would think that the dist cap keep most of the water out . I'm hoping I've solved my problem.....the rotor looked to be original (w/ 70k miles on the car !).

thanks again
Tim

The best way to remove a really stubborn rotor is to crack it like a nut. This is the factory method for some (non-Porsche) rotors that are on REALLY tight by design.
