badge color differences

hi,
i am going to try a cosmetic restoration on the badge on the left, can anyone tell me why the bars are more red than orange?
i know the plating is worn, would you polish it or leave the "patina"?
thanks , ben

Hood emblems changed from orange enamel bars to red in '75, the difference in value for the early ones can be hundreds of $. There are many different variations after that. Your badge on the left appears to have some cosmetic issues, missing enamel and faded or removed plating.
I would leave it as is unless it is a real early badge and you can do some inexpensive restoration work, the one on the right appears very nice if an original pre '74 and could be worth around $400.
