Carrera cooler repair

So I noticed a steady drip from under my passenger front fender. Looks like a leak.....pulled the wheel, broke loose the connection from the Elephant line to the cooler and the divert to my cooler in the nose....gave a clean up and re-tightened.

Took it for s serious jaunt.....still leaks, Fookkkk.....

Looked closer and it looked like the body of the cooler and not the lines or fittngs.

Pulled the cooler, stripped the rock guard off, the fan, and took to a local radiator shop. They found a pinhole leak inside the flap of the lower....mount.

Never seen this happen. BIG weld bead, pressure check to 135psi and no leak.

Got it installed, took it out on a hard run today.....stopped in the drive, dry as a bone.

Checked the oil level gauge....nothing. Dip stick was dry, had to top it off with two quarts. I lost more than I thought with the leak and the loss when I pulled the cooler. Filled it to just below 1/2 way up the dipstick.

Nice to be able to fix stuff by yourself and a little help for the radiator guy. $85 for the diagnosis test, degrease, repair and pressure check. 2 quarts @ 2.49 each of VR1 20-50 Racing dino oil.

Lot better than $500 for a new BEHR cooler.

way to go, JB. I love a cheap fix. Thanks for posting this, it's nice to know we have these kind of options.

The cooler likely holds a little under 2 qts of oil itself, right?

The cooler holds about 1 quart.....I'm thinking the leak did the rest.

VR-1 goes on sale for 2 bucks off every year at AZ and Kragen/O'Reilly's in the spring. I picked up 2 cases.

Hey joe

Great to see the cooler shares the same bed as you! We all love our Porsches here but is that taking it a little too far?

Hehehehehe
