re: '87 Carrera
Another question: my right front turn signal is out. I tested the right side bulb in the left front turn signal socket and the bulb is fine. The fuse broke or was broken when I looked at it, which I replaced. Still no luck. What else do I test? Is there a chance that I need a new switch? I just ordered a headlight switch yesterday and really don't want to go through this install twice. Please advise. Thanks. |

I recently tried to replace the bulb for my front turn signal, and I found that the fixture was broken. The spring that holds the contacts against the back of the bulb wasn't in place, so unless you pressed on the bulb, it woudn't light up.
When I took apart the other (working) turn signal to see how it was put together, and it broke, too! So perhaps this is a common problem. With a little creativity, I've gotten both of them working again though. I've got an '87 Carrera as well. ------------------ --mark. |

Thanks. I'm leaning toward it being a bad headlight/turn signal switch. My high beams don't work, but the bulbs, filaments and fuses are fine. I was told by several others that it's the headlight switch, which I ordered last week. I will try your test out though, if the new switch doesn't fix it.
Now, what do you do about the left low beam being a lot brighter than the right one? Quote:
