If you like your Hoosier Dot-legal race tires...
you should check out this link to the Hoosier site:
http://www.hoosiertire.com/fmvsshlp.HTM They may soon be regulated out of production. If enough people make comments to the government, it might not happen. We have until June 5th to submit comments. Follow the link on the page. Sorry to sound like Chicken Little (The sky is falling!), but this bothers me. TT |

"As government expands...Liberty contracts." -Ronald Reagan. I mean, did the Hoosier people worry about the rights of others before now? "First they came for the Jews, but I wasn't a Jew...."

What exactly are these regulations proposing?? That isn't exactly mentioned on the site.
I assume that the reason the DOT legal tires are needed is to meet the letter of the law for certain racing organizations?? After all you can't actually use these tires for street use, even Hoosier makes that very clear: "NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE: All Hoosier Racing Tires including DOT labeled Hoosier Racing Tires are designed for racing purposes only on specified racing surfaces and are not to be operated on public roadways. DOT labeled Hoosier Racing Tires meet Department Of Transportation requirements for marking and performance only and are NOT INTENDED FOR HIGHWAY USE. It is unsafe to operate any Hoosier Racing Tire including DOT tires on public roads. The prohibited use of Hoosier Racing Tires on public roadways may result in loss of traction, unexpected loss of vehicle control, or sudden loss of tire pressure, resulting in a vehicle crash and possible injury or death. " So if these tires are legislated out of existence that would mean that the people who are using them for racing would have to go back to using a 'real' street tire like the A032R. It seems that Hoosier could just as easily loose this business if the racing organizations tightened up their regulations as well. f you build a business on a loop hole then don't be surprised if one day it disappears into the same hole.
