The top of my 1989 3.2 Carrera Cabrio is Ok, but some stitch has gone. I would like to disassemble it myself to take for re-stiching and then to put back. Anyone went thru the job of assembling and disassembling the fabric top ? How difficult is the job ? any special tools ? Thank you for your attention Rico

I have extensive Porsche material about the whole process and it's a bear. I think you'd be better off having someone stich it while it remains onboard. I have the same problem with my '95 hi miles 993 cab top. If you put the top up half way and then remove the headliner enough you can get a good look at the damaged areas to stich them.

There is really no way to stitch it without noticing, although you could find someone to repair it, but it will cost you dearly. The worst part of the top is removal and installation. A new, high quality top will only put you back 650$. The other 800$ you'd pay for installation. Before I got a new one, i tried everything to fix a tiny tear, and it just got worse and worse. Best bet, live with it until you want to get a new one. I will say this though. The top part (not the back window which is a separate piece), is much simpler to install than the rear piece. If your tear is on the top part, you can fairly easily replace that and leave the window area in place. ------------------ Kurt B 1984 Carrera Cabriolet 911 Page carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com [This message has been edited by Kurt B (edited 08-08-2001).]
