Unhappy overfilled oil tank

overfilled my oil tank in '93 911SC by 1.5 Quarts.
Is this a problem or can I just leave it?

You can just leave it, but it really isn't a good idea. The excess oil will overflow into the air box and get sucked in to the intake tract and burn off and generally make a hell of a mess and gum up things that shouldn't be, like your airflow sensor plate.

The easiest way I found to remove excess oil was with a length of clear hose available at pretty much any hardware store for 2 or 3 bucks. Just suck it out and put it back in the bottle you poured it from. In all likelyhood your car will use a bit of oil anyway, and you can just add it back in when it is needed.

Tom.

It has to come out one way or another. You have a choice. Either into the air box and you can spend a day cleaning everything up, or you can drain a little via teh drain plug (carefully don't remove the entire plug unless you want to put in 6 qts.) or borrow the turkey baster in the draw next to the sink.

The overfill will take care of itself - probably into the airbox

Really, you probably want to drain the extra. My SC will divest itself of all oil above the half way mark in about 100 miles and then not go through a bit in another thousand...

Go to your local hardware store or autoparts store and buy a cheap pump <$5. with the car warm, pump out the 1-2 qts that your over. Just be careful as the oild can be a bit warm.

BTDT w/ 3 qts over... no one told me the car had to be running to get a reading on the dipstick.
