Exclamation Need Help Finding Mahle Sport Pistons

Help!! I'm in the middle of a 3.0 to 3.4 build and in a time crunch. Got the 98mm Mahle Cylinders. Andile had the pistons but now sold out. I checked with Mahle North America and no luck.

Looking for a set of Mahle 98mm 74.4 Sport Pistons 10.5 CR - Andial Part Number: AND 103 986 98 S.

Can someone hook me up with a shop, race team, or company who might be able to help.

these guys do tons of race cars and support at tracks so probably know of someone in your area that might have the parts.
Dan works up and down the east coast from florida to new hampshire. might not be any body in the shop right now, but give them a try.

Can you share more about ur build? I'm finishing up a 3.2 to 3.4 conversion presently and using those same pistons and cylinders.

Got mine from Andial packaged with the cylinders. My understanding is that its next to impossible to find pistons sold apart from cylinders - much less individual pistons. Very interested to hear if you can find a set. I also heard that there can be a very long weight time even if you do want cylinders and pistons.

What induction and engine management are you running? Cams? Be aware that it may be difficult to hit 10.5 compression if ur setting ur deck height for a street car. I believe mahle states compression assuming a zero deck height for consistency.

Andile will sell pistons separately if they have them. They have these pistons in 70.4 stroke and and not the 74.4 I need.

PMO 46s Carbs for induction into ported 39mm 3.0 heads. Heads were drilled for twin plugs by Ollie's. Ignition will come from Cleweet Engineering an Electromotive System using their XDi with 2X Coil Packs. For cams I've gone back and forth from GE60s to S. Present concensus is an S cam - strong from to bottom to top. Also installing a Fidanza aluminum flywheel. Car will be used on the street and track. You need to pay special attention to your oil cooling. A 3.4 makes a lot of heat, needs a high capacity oil pump, mine is a 963 pump, and a big cooler. I went overboard and wanted to keep my stock SC look and installed the latest twin fender cooler with finned oil lines from Elephant Racing - $$$ and very difficult install, but a beautiful and dry effective system. Didn't even consider the front cooler because of look and street use - curbs, driveways...

Now, want to sell you pistons??? You can always get them later from Andile.

Well, you learn something new everyday.... If they have them in stock, what's their price? Mine are already installed, and im looking forward to trying them out in the coming weeks!

I've got an 87 Carrera with a front cooler with good ducting. I'll watch the temps and enhance cooling as needed.

Sounds like a great engine ur building. Good luck!

Well I guess I'll have to buy the whole package. I would consider using Elephants finned oil lines. They say they provide as much cooling as an additional cooler.
You got twin plugs? I hear that it's a have to for 3.4 over 10CR.

Andile quoted me $2200 for the set.

I've read that the elephant oil lines are most effective if u can get good air flow to them (e.g. remove rocker panel). It does sound like a nice first step before adding another front cooler. Hopefully I won't need another!

Yes, I'm running twin plugs, but we could only hit 9.6:1 compression at 1mm deck height. We found that cylinder head volume increased a few cc after coming back from the machine shop - valve seats were cut and material removed for second plugs. Not ideal but ill live with it. We can run more timing with this setup. I'll be sticking with motronic engine management for the time being, in order stay in budget. Elgin super c2 cams. These magle pistons will allow me to go ITBs and more aggressive cams down the road.

Sounds like a great build. Cleweet Engineering makes a excellent upgrade for the Motronic System. What cam you using.

964 cams are nearing the limit of motronic. Elgin super c2 are considered one step above 964 cams. I like the "come on cam" feel of the 3.2 Carrera cams and the Elgin super c2 should help me keep the cars personality. Whenever I move to ITBs I will change cams.

Ive been told by some smart folks that Mahle and JE don't play well with each other. Something about metallurgy or surface coating. At this point I'm willing to look at alternatives, but don't know what will work other than Mahle with Mahle.
