HELP! 83 SC with no spark!!

Im currently broken down in Calgary alberta Canada. I have an 83 sc 911 with a 3.0. I cranked and cranked but no start. I can smell fuel and I took of the main lead from the distributor and gapped to the frame but no spark. When I turn over the key the whine from the CDI box is not apparant. Hoping thats the problem. Any one know a good mechanic in Calgary or someone who can help me?????

Scott.

If you have a multi meter test the power to the coil from the CDI box. Then check the powe into the CDI box. If you have power in but not out the box needs to be replaced! You can replace it with a MSD 6AL unit for about $150 or you can purchase a rebuilt CDI box for HUGE $$$$$!

Installation of the MSD unit is very easy but will involve cutting your plug to the CDI box!

Unlikely the coil is cooked. Are all leads attached correctly, nothing has popped off anywhere?

Check the three fuses in the engine compartment too see if they are good and they are making a good connection.

if you have a test light pull the 6 pin connector out of the CDI box the center lower connector should have power nothing else.

Had something just like that when I was leaving the track last week-end.

After doing every thing, I had to call the CAA. While waiting for the towing, I confirm that I had 12V at the coil, so as a last ditch effort, I took the coil to distributor wire out. The coil side connector look like it had some kind of whitish powder on it. I cleaned it put it back wiggle the connectors a both ends to make sure I had contact, turn the key and it started right up. 5 minutes later, while driving out, the towing showed up.
