Oil pressure before starting
HI: I'm new to Porches, My brother passed away and had a 77 911s Targa I think? Stored in a storage shed for about 5 years maybe more.It looks like a turbo version wide body and looks nice. Some one add a Paxton Super charger I'm trying to resurrect it and get it started. It hasn't been running in years,( 5-10) Not sure where he got it from.I was wondering if there was a way to get oil pressure before I start cranking it over.I don't want to damage anything internal.I did pull the plugs and put oil in the cylinders. It does turn with a wrench. Thanks Mike

Change the oil. Disconnect the coil. Crank it.

First precaution when trying to start a sitting car, move it away from the house and have a good fire extinguisher handy. Check it for gas leaks before you turn the key to start.
Make sure you have fresh gas in a clean tank, change all the filters, drain the old oil and add about 9 quarts. The oil level must be checked while the engine is running, if you fill it till the oil shows on the dipstick with the engine off you will be putting in too much. Disconnect the cdi box and crank the engine till the pressure gauge registers some pressure. Don't overcrank the starter. About 15 seconds and let it rest a minute, then crank again. Expect it to smoke heavily when you do get it started. Oil tends to accumulate in the muffler and when it starts to get hot it smokes like mad. You probably should also change the rubber brake lines and put in fresh brake fluid. If you search the forum you can find quite a few threads about starting up a car that has been sitting for years. Here is one about starting a stored engine. Starting a 911 that has been sitting
