CDI Problem?
 

weird CDI? problem maybe? Car starts and runs fine then after shutting off it wont start ( no specific time period sometimes it starts and sometimes it wont) .definately NOT a fuel problem.......No spark... but power to CDI checked all the connections etc seems ok........if I "tap" the CDI Box it will start up so thinking maybe afault there? its a 930 turbo with the 8 pin box.. any ideas? and does anyone out there have a good 8 Pin CDI box also, or advice on where to get mine rebuilt?? thnaks in advance for any advice tips etc

Could it be the coil? If your sure it's the CDI then I would go MSD6-AL. Much cheaper

Before starting to replace parts ... please do the following to clean all of the electrical connections

Disconnect the battery before starting, of course! Remove the relay panel from the engine compartment and then remove the CDI-unit from the panel. Clean the grounding location at the fender and on the relay panel. Then, remove and clean the ground terminal from the magnesium case of the CDI-unit and clean both mounting location and the 1/4" Faston terminal with stainless brush and isopropyl alcohol. Likewise, clean the eight terminals of the CDI-unit <b>AND the connector at the relay panel AND the 14-pin connector.</b>

After everything has dried thoroughly ... apply Dow Corning 4 or 111 Silicone Grease (or equivalent) to all of the terminals and connectors and reassemble and reinstall the relay panel. I usually run a braided ground strap under a CDI-unit mounting bolt directly to the body grounding bolt for the relay panel.

Inspect the green signal cable for the distributor trigger coil ... for any cracking or damaged insulation. A replacement 'pigtail' is available to repair the connection at the distributor where the damage usually occurs. Good luck!
