Haven't seen the film clips yet, but I have a video casette with that car blasting round the Nürburgring. If it's the same stuff: GET IT!!! It's worth the wait then.

OMG, that was so cool.

That guy can really drive. He'll be wanting a new pair of rear tyres tho after all those powerslides

The video is called Ruf Fazzination. I think
there was a part II of this video which gave a tour of the factory. I have the first part
which shows a brief factory shot. Majority of the video is of the car screaming around the ring. There are some in-cockpit shots of the drivers feet. What is really amazing is that it looks like he is wearing regular dress shoes and no helmet, pretty neat.

I think you can get the video from Moffett's 1.800.356.2911.

Jeans, no helmet, no gloves, and i bet he's got sneekers on. :-) Do you think the driver has some Rally experience. Just the way he throws the car in the corner to get the rear to break loose, then keeps the power on. AWESOME.
Jack,, This is what I want to see in the next video with black beauty. :-)

That is *exactly* what my commute is like, except I usually come a little closer to the cyclists.

LOL orb!
I thought it was odd that he wasn't wearing a helmet - he could have easily lost it the way he was going. I would have thought they would have made you wear one - even at open track days.

I'd love to take any car round the 'ring though - especially a p-car. It is the stuff legends are made of.

Not the fastest way around the circuit but what a fantastic display of car control. That CTR looked a real handful to drive but he really looked totally relaxed in it with his leather slip-ons and white socks. I don't know how he can do it without gloves- I always get sweaty palms when I drive on track.

For more info on the track, go to http://www.born-free.net/nordschleife.html.

The track is 13 miles long. And its' classified as a one-way public toll road. That means you can go to Germany, rent your dream Porsche and rip...and you are still covered by insurance. The Germans do have a sense of humour after all.
Note the lap times:

RUF CTR with test driver Stefan Roser: 8m 15s
996 Turbo: 7m 56s
996 GT3: 7m 56s
996 GT2: 7m 47s (Production Car Lap Record)
993 GT2: 8m 09s
Gemballa 996 GTR 600: 7m 44s (Road Car Record)
Porsche 956 Group C: 6m 11s (Absolute Lap Record)
996 C2: 8m 17s
C5 Corvette: 8m 40s
Dodge Viper: 8m 10s
Lamborghini Diablo GT: 8m 04s
Ferrari 360: 8m 09s

Porsches rule the ring.....Porsches Rule!!!

I had my friend lend me this video for the past week. I think the previous post was right about the title and it is about 20 minutes long.
A couple things I noted:
Did you notice how he purposely early apexes almost every corner and then countersteers while blasting his 500 HP backwheels to throttle steer. Impressive power. Maybe his turning ratio is altered, but his steering input is VERY heavy, sometimes turning half rotations on straight aways! I guess 200 MPH will do that. Are those street tires? How many laps do you think they would last. Where the other people on this track warned of this guy? Are those motorcycles or mopeds he is passing? In one frame, you can see he is going 300 KMP!

The most impressive part for me was when he was blasting on a sweeper and I think the suspension bottoms out and I swear I thought he was going to go agricultural and he keeps it on the track. This guy must have alot of seat time in that car. Amazing display.

cool video!

i would wear a helmet and gloves though if i were him. at those speeds anything can happen.

he must go through tires more often that i go through parakeet food (and i have 7 birds). i don't like how jerky he is on the steering wheel. a race car driver he isn't, but it IS an excellent show of both familiarity with the car and a lot of confidence in his ability to keep it pointed in the direction he wants.

The guy driving the car, Stefan Roser, is Ruf's test driver and Sales Manager to boot!

I think either he's got cohones of steel or a financial interest in the local Tire Rack!

Also, after watching that a couple of times, I think that car (in LAP1.mpeg) is not the CTR, it's the Yellow Bird. They made a video of it that circulated around a bit. It's got the old style "bar" steering wheel, the gear boot is rubber and there's no centre console...

Would they have removed these for weight, then added that awful steering wheel? I watched it several times and don't believe it's an airbag wheel...

Anyone's thoughts on this?

What do you mean airbag wheel? I think we're talking late 80's 911 here which was what the Yellowbird was based on.

Perhaps we can call film our drives to Warren house for the Bar B Que. Hopefully, I will have another PORSCHE by then.

By the way, should you know of someone wanting to donate a 911 Turbo to a worthy cause, I can be reached at www.SecureWealth.com

I have the video, it was made in the late eighties, 87 or 88. It is a Yellowbird. I am the driver, ok!
Actually it is a promotional video from RUF. You had to send them your credentials to see if you were worthy then they would send you the video.

Hey Mikkel, I tried to open this video but my operating system, Mac OS 9, does not have the correct plug-in. Do you have any suggestions where I can download the plug-in for free? What plug-in do I need?
