The parts guide says three seals. The haynes and factory manual say one seal on top of the fork and one above the arm and one below the arm. Some people say there should be a seal on both sides of the fork. Does it make sense to use four seals and put one on both sides of the fork? The trans is an 86 915 trans and the motor is an 84 Euro 3.2. Here is a picture of the manual showing where the seals go. The haynes manual and the factory manual have the same picture.

I just took apart an 83 case. there were three seals. I do not think there is room for a seal either side of the fork, inside the case.

Agreed, no seal below the fork. I replaced the 2 outside/below of the trans; above and below the arm/lever, after completely disassembling, cleaning and lathering up with anti-seize.
