targa top problem
what's happening is the front part of the frame is not staying in the fully opened position. the rear frame still "snaps" open and stays, but the front bar is weak and loose.
while driving the front bar of the frame pulls back slightly (as it does not snap open tight) and one or two of the targa top clips slide off the frame and wind comes in the front (loud). is there any adjustment anywhere to make the frame "snap" open tighter? what could be wrong? i couldn't tell. |

Check the clips for grooves in them. Over time, these wear out and won't secure the front and rear bar in place. I'm sure our host has these. I know Performance Products has these as well. They are thicker and clamp better.

Had the same problem on my folding top, no prob any more since i got the hard top. Get the new clips , they are longer and secure the top frame better. Ask someone at pelican to get them for you.

Is the top material in good condition & tight.
I had whistling wind noises too. I had cracks and the material was getting loose and floppy. I rebuilt my targa top and that solved the problem(s).
The clips are a first thing to try. Until my top went really bad, getting the clip right made a difference. But, if the top material is shot or your top was rebuilt without enough tension on the top material, then no amount of fiddling with the clips is going to help keep the top's front lip down. If you care to look into targa top rebuild instructions on PP, you'll also find you can re-tension the top material. If your top material is good, and the clips are not worn, you might look into retensioning the top material. |
