993 Windshield Built in Antenna

I'm about to install a new 993 windshield into my 87.

I want to use the built in windshield antenna lead ( looks like a very thin computer ribbon) out the bottom

How does it connect to the antenna booster?

First things first, the 993 windshield is designed to be glued in, and not held in place by a weatherstrip and is a different size from the < 95 models. It can be done, but not exactly plug and play. And the 993 antenna connects with a single click lock connector. Hard to tell by the photo, but it looks like it in the center of your picture.

993 Windshield Built in Antenna

Thank-you, rattlsnak:

Yeah, I borrowed the image from the 993 glass install thread.

What is a single click lock connector?

I see the circular antenna embedded in the the top center of the windshield.

At the bottom of the glass there is a small computer like ribbon (obviously the antenna), but that's my question
what and how does that attach. Is it this wire on the booster. See that circular sticker looking thing at the end of the wire?

if you look at your first picture, there is a single wire in the center of the picture with a plastic connector on the end. That should connect to the winshield and the plastic end connects to the booster on your last picture. On your last picture, it looks like the connector is plugged in but somebody cut the end off the wire side that goes to the windshield.

Yep, on your last pic, in the upper right corner, there are two wires that seem to be attached together. One of them is the power for the amp and the other plugs into the radio. The wire that goes to the antenna clip on the windshield indeed looks like it has been snipped off.

Porsche Crest 993 Windshield Built in Antenna

EUREKA !! This is the image, I was looking for.

That ribbon connects to the windshield and subsequently to the booster.

I'm assuming I could just soder that ribbon on the glass directly to the cut wire.

Windshield antenna connector - anyone know what it looks like?

Because my 91 Turbo had water intrusion problems when I first purchased it a couple of years ago, a "while we were in there at the shop" item that was done was the 993 replacement windshield paid for the insurance company because a 'rock' came flying through it... It was done at the shop's recommendation and I had to pay for the seals. Although I believe it looks considerably better than the standard 965 windshield, I can confess to ya that the radio antenna within it is crap! But, that's been easily remedied with a smart phone connected to the stereo for either Pandora or iHeart radio...

993 windshield

Hey 962,

There has been a lot of discussion on Pelican--often conflicting--of whether or not a 993 windshield and seal will fit older Carreras 87-89. Some say that it will work and that they have done it; and others have said that they tried it and that it can't be done. One of the frustrating thing with these forums is that you never learn how the problem ended--was it resolved or not.

Did you put the 993 windshield in your 87? How did it go? What lessons can you convey? Did you resolve the antenna issue?

Thanks for any wisdom you have!

Cordially, Greg

So help me out here. I have an '87 Carrera Cabriolet and my antenna is in the windshield. I don't have any other aerial. I also know the windshield has been replaced at some point. Did cabriolets come with windshield antennas in '87?

I believe that my 87 Targa has the original windshield and it has the antenna in the windshield. I think all later cars had the windshield antennas.
