70T part identification
 
The project is coming along finished the POR 15 3 step tanks restore/sealer today, I have the Zenith re-build kits, but while re-moving the Carbs over 1-3 I bumped the sensor in the bottom left of the photo and fractured the plastic body, can someone tell me what it's function is. Seems like a when the linkage is fully closed it hits the black rubber button. There is a wire from the main harness connected to this sensor. Idle circuit? How difficult and pricey is it to replace? Thanks for your time and knowledge.

Part of early emission controls, enrichment I believe. Anyway, I removed all of it from my 70T with no running problems many years ago. Gotta leave for work. I'll look it up in the manuals when I get home this PM and let you know what it is and the function if nobody else has chimed in by then.

Does anyone know how necessary this switch is? For $159, if it's just for emissions/cold starts I dont need to comply in Hawaii.

I believe it is not for emissions but for use in the starting process to aid cold starts. I am just talking here and I am no expert since I have Fuel injection on my 81.

How does it start now?

It never gets colder than 68 degrees here at sea level in Hawaii, so I am not concerned with cold starts. Does anyone know if it's only purpose is to aid in cold ie freezing type starts? The car was running before I removed the Carbs due to the accelerator pumps leaking badly, didn't want to burn her up just because I wanted to hear her run. Then when I was maneuvering the carbs out I bumped it with the bottom of a stack and the brittle plastic cap fractured, guess it could be epoxied back together....I just wanted to know what it was designed for.

The microswitch signals the RPM transducer(speed switch) indicating that the throttle is closed. When Rpm's is above(if I remember correctly)1520 a vacuum is applied to the solenoid on the left (4-6) carb. This prevents an over run condition ie: backfing on deceleration. It is similar to an MFI circuit but the RPM settings are different and it enrichens the mixture instead of leaning it for the MFI. You can delete because it was essentially for emissions so they could run leaner at idle. Make sure you retune the carbs after deleting.

Looks like you have the answer with diagrams. Get rid of it. You will not miss it and you will have $159 in your pocket.
