I am replacing the tbars on my '77. The rears are the hard part right? Wrong. Rears are done.
I have stuck front tbar, can't get it out. I tried big ass channel locks, no dice. I tried putting a hose clamp around it and prying it out. Didn't work. How can I pull that puppy out? ------------------ ![]() [This message has been edited by Clark Griswald (edited 08-05-2001).] |

Can't you tap it out from the back?

pop out the soft plug in the front of the arm and run it out with a drift and a hammer.

I didn't know it was accessible from the front side. I'll try that tonight.
Thanks |

Clark,
You have to unbolt and remove the S-shaped skid or protection plate at the front of each control arm, then you will see the cap John was referring to. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

I removed the skid plate up front such that the front of the A arm was exposed. However there is no access hole or cap.
Here is a diagram that shows the cap as part number 15. ![]() But on my '77 this "cap" seemed to be a part of the A arm and not removable. Did I miss something? [This message has been edited by Clark Griswald (edited 08-09-2001).] |

It comes out/off. As I remember, it's simply an interference fit into the A-arm. The diagram you show is correct: the cap is a separate piece. You may have to use some ingenuity--vicegrips, drill and tap a hole, whatever--to get it out if its frozen in place. Several cycles of heat might help, like from form a propane torch. I don't remember the part that exactly, so maybe somebody else will have some more specific advice. But it does come out.

There is nothing to grab, in fact it is recessed in the tube of the A arm, and the surface of the "plug" is flat. The tube creates a ridge perhaps 1/8 inch high beyond the plug.
It appeared to be a single piece of steel. I suppose I could drill a hole through it, but that seems hokey. |

Clark,
The cap is #15 in the diagram. If you tap right at the edge with a punch or drift .. it should pop out, or at least come unseated. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

Clark, just a thought...but if it seems that there is no cap could you be looking directly at the end of the torsion bar (and possibly the cap is missing)?
