Right air duct on pre -77 911
I noticed a pre 74-77 911 with an air duct on right side of the front valance. Was this a factory option on this models?

I have been told that this air duct on right side was standard on cars delivered to states with warmer climate for improved oil cooling. Can any confirm this?

Never heard of that. It's also not documented in any of the 50+ books that I have on the 911, or in any of the factory documentation that I have.
So, no. Whoever told you that is wrong. Well after the '74-'77 cars were made, Porsche modified the underside of the front bumpers on the right side to allow more air to slip between the lower edge of the bumper and the upper edge of the valance. This was done on all cars after a certain build date. JR Last edited by javadog; 09-26-2012 at 04:04 AM.. |

When I removed my front bumper to install a new "smile" I took the opportunity to cut a window in the bottom of the aluminum bumper similar to what javadog described above, to permit more air to reach the oil cooler in the wheel well. It is invisible unless you are on your knees looking up under the bumper.
