Outside temperature gauge

I've read posts regarding outside temperature gauges. People seem to be in agreement that they were available on the early cars and for the 1989 anniversary edition, but nothing in between.

The September 2012 edition of Excellence had an article on the first 930 imported into North America. This is one of the pictures in that article.

This car has a wonderfully funky interior, but more in keeping with the purpose of this thread, what do you think that gauge is near the ignition switch? This is where the early cars used to have the thermometer, so I wonder if anyone else thinks this might be one, as well. It would be interesting to know if this option extended past the very early cars into the mid-years, too.
