Detecting Knock? EGT's? Diagnosing tool?
Hello all,
I'm still in my research mode for my next 911. Highly considering my options and am considering a 930 Turbo. Curious about how to detect knock on a Turbo model. I'm used to an EGT gauge to monitor rich/lean readings with my other turbo cars. Same principal with the Porsche 930? Is there a diagnosing tool that Porsche owners use for their turbo cars? Thanks in advance! |
Hi Turbodrvn,
Since the 930 doesn't have EFI with Knock Sensing capabilities, I guess your only options are to use a high quality, quick response EGT gauge and/or an Air:Fuel ratio gauge/monitor. I'm going to use the Haltech Haltuner A/F monitor as it's one of the best on the market and is quick responding. Check www.haltech.com.au for more info. |
WydRyd/Merv,
Thanks again for your response. I feel like you're my "big brother"!! You're always responding back to my threads with very useful information......thanks again!! I truly appreciate it! |
:D Glad to be of assistance. If I have the experience/answers, I don't mind sharing with fellow enthusiasts ;)
BTW, the only reason I don't wanna go with an EGT Gauge is because I was told by some reputable tuners that it's a waste of money and isn't 'fast-reacting enough'. They recommended investing in a quality A/F gauge instead, so that's the path I'll take. |
