Where do you mount your radar detector?

Finally succumbed and bought a detector - legal now in the UK - but not sure where to mount it.

Central on dash it seems to be be behind the windscreen wipers (a no-no according to the manual). Needs to be quite high on screen for clear view. Would be behind green strip if placed above the mirror and not sure if the built in aerial would interfere. Anybody got experience of this? (or am I just being too fussy)

For interest Model is Bel 550 which gets best reviews in the UK

PS - want to be able to swap between cars but mount in Porsche is most important - I seem to drive it the fastest!

If you want to swap it, you are pretty much limited to the suction cup on the window thing. Above the rear view or below the visor are popular places.

My K40 is mounted in the glove box, with a red light (about the size of a ball point pen tip) on either side of my tach, on/off switch to the left of the ignition key in the rectangle box, remote sensor under the front bumper.

The only problem is the sound is not that loud as I just found out that the only speaker is on the main board that is mounted in my glove box. K40 sent me a new speaker that I am going to mount near the driver (just have to figure out how to wire it since the exisiting wires do not leave much room for cutting and splicing.

I have a valentine 1 mounted above the rearview, currently looking through the window tint band at the top of the windshield. Valentine says this is bad, and I'm thinking of other possibilities as well. I also have a K40 installed system, but I'm probably going to take that out at some point soon. From what I know, the best place to mount the radar detector is below the rearview, to the driver's side. This gives the best view for the detector and for you. Unfortunately, this also means it's highly visible to both other drivers and the cops. I'm sticking with it behind the tint band for now, it doesn't seem like the abilities are too degraded, and it's very hard to tell it's there from outside the car (I hope).

On another note, both laser detectors went off on my way back in from long island this weekend. It was pretty intense, having the K40 license plate mounted alarm buzzing, as well as having the v1 sound off with its "european siren." I was impressed. Hopefully, since the K40 supposedly jams laser as well, i confused the hell out of some cop. I have yet to drive by a "you are driving this fast" sign manned by laser, to see if the hype is true. I'll let you guys know when that happens.

mounting radar detector

I use a Valentine One radar detector. It is the best! I mount this detector two different ways. In my 911E, I mount my V1 using the suction cup mounted bracket that came with the detector. The detector bracket is located about 4" below my rearview mirror. I leave this bracket in the 911 all the time. My daily driver has a piece of velcro taped to the dash for the detector. The V1 also has velcro taped on the bottom. This allows me the ability to easily move the detector from car to car as needed. I like to use velcro in my daily driver as it allows me to easily remove the detector out of sight/view. Unfortunately, had one ripped off during a smash and grab!
Good luck!!
