Shock Replacement - Improved Boges?
I am going to replace the front inserts and rear shocks on my '86 Carerra. This is a street everyday driver (no track for me so far) running with the original Boges front and rear. 137,000 miles is probably enough for my current set.
Darren at Pelican says Bilsteins are the most popular replacement shock by far. But, he feels the new Boges are actually much improved and are a reasonable alternative. He also said Porsche didn't choose Boge as OE in '86 by accident. Any idea what I should choose for front insets and rear shocks? The $500 Bilsteins vs the $350 Boges. Others? Thanks.

You got your moneys worth on the Boge shocks. Now upgrade to Bilstein and get ready for the best money you will ever spend on the car (except possibly SSI exhaust system) while you own it!
Installed the HD in front, Sport in back just about a year ago and still puts a smile on my face when I drive it... the Boge's were just there... these rock! You can get them for less than $500 as well. Search the web and as well Pelican has been matching some peoples prices, so give them a shot as well. Joe

I replaced my Boges with Boges on my 89 at 120k a couple of months ago. It was a definite a huge improvement in the handling of the car. My car is mainly a street driver but I still regret not getting Billsteins after reading more about it. From what my mechanic told me, Billstein was OEM for Porsche but they went to Boges for cost reasons. They are not bad but Billstein is fundamentally a better shock. At least I know what to get when I will be at 240k and I will know how to change them.
You should be able to get a little closer to $400 for the Billsteins.

Try this site, I was quoted a set of four Bilsteins for $419 for an 87. www.shox.com Have not ordered them yet, but being 14 years old, the time is coming. Mine are squeaking now.
