Basic que - but need help changing fog lamps
 

Hi,

I know this is probably very basic to many of you, but I need help to know how to properly replace the lamps in our fog lights.

The manual said to disconnect the wire and replace. But, I am not sure at what point to disconnect it and the lamp appears to be "one with the bracket" that it is held in, so I was not able to pull the burnt lamp out.

I'm not sure that this will help you since my car is a lot older than your car, but once you have the lamp apart, look on the back of the housing and the bulb should be held in with a small bracket. Pry this to the left or right with a small flathead screwdriver and the bulb should come out from the back. Make sure that when replacing your bulb, your hands are clean. If oil from your hands gets on your new bulb, it will cause your new bulb to fail prematurely. Good luck.

Thanks. I was getting confused because I did not know if the replacement lamp/bulb should be just a lamp or if it should be a lamp "within" a bracket. Later today I will see if I can pop the lamp out of the bracket and just leave the wiring as is. Again, Thanks!!

I ended up buying the replacement bulb first, which made it perfectly obvious what had to come out.

I did this several weeks ago on my '85, and I think the fog lights are the same.

Replacing the bulbs is relatively simple. Remove the 2 screws holding the lens in. The reflector/bulb assembly is held in place with a metal tab, which you just bend slightly in order to remove it. Once its out, you access the bulb from the back of the reflector. You'll need H3 bulbs, which come with their own connectors. Just disconnect old bulb, remove and replace with new.
Heed the prior warnings about not touching the bulb itself with your fingers - you can use a tissue if necessary.

Hey, Again thanks for the help. On my lunch hour I am going to go buy the bulbs and hopefully get this accomplished tonight. I figure that I might as well try to tackle the things on the porsche that are within my "extremely low porsche tech skill level." But I have to admit...reading a lot of these posts and what people do on their own porsches at least gives me hope that our learning curve can improve. Thanks SmileWavy
