How to wire a Pertronix w/ non-CDI Permatune??!

Anyone know how to correctly wire the red and black Pertronix leads on a '73 911 with a non-CDI Permatune? -- instructions do not cover cars with the Permatune unit. It is important to emphasize that this car does not use the Capacitive Discharge (CDI) Permatune; the car still has a coil installed. Currently, the car has two leads connecting to a single spade terminal that protrudes from the side of the distributor; the spade terminal is ultimately attached to the points. Once the points are replaced with the Pertronix unit, will the red Pertronix lead connect to the two wires that were once connected to the spade terminal? And, does the black Pertronix lead simply attach to the Negative terminal on the coil?

They have good tech support on their website www.permatune.com Give that a try.

Matt,

If you look at the bottom of your 'coil' ... and it has the Bosch part number 0.221.121.001 on it, I can ASSURE you that the PermaTune unit IS INDEED a CDI-unit, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING should be hooked to the coil! The PermaTune unit puts out 350 Volt pulses to terminal 'A' of the coil!

The Pertronix needs ground for the black wire, +14 Volts for the red wire from the fuse block ... and the output wire goes to the points connector, which ultimately goes to the CDI-unit 3-pin connector, the Speed Switch, and the tachometer.

It would be a good idea to verify proper operation of your Speed Switch, unless you have the 'TK' engine of the '73.5 CIS 911T variety!
