Cost of unconverting the Webers?

Suppose you've got an early car that has had the common conversion to Weber IDAs. How much money (and aggravation) to put it back to MFI?

MFI Reversion

Figure $500-1000 for a complete MFI system, and if you need to have the pump rebuilt, another $700 or so.

MFI style fuel system required: Bosch internally bypassed fuel pump ($300) and associated plumbing, hose like $4/foot.

Labor to remove carbs and install and tune MFI, probably about ten hours, figure $800-1000. That's IF you can find somebody who knows what they are doing: there aren't many around. You might be better off downloading the blue book and learning to "Check Measure Adjust" yourself with the aid of a Gunson Gastester.

Dues to join MFIWDP: Several Cases of Beck's Bier.

But your eternal Porsche soul will rest much easier, knowing that you have put right what had been done wrong in the past. And the extra 10 HP and the euphonious rattle of the MFI system will gratify your spending of $$$ in this life. I say, DO IT!

Wow that's steep! So $2500 would cover it?

How much can you get for the Weber IDA 40s?

Probably showing my ignorance here, but I thought I would chip in.

Required MFI elements are:
Throttle Bodies (with appropriate linkages)
Velocity Stacks
Whatever they call the units that connect the velocity stacks to the airbox.
MFI Pump
Hard lines from the pump to the injectors
MFI type injectors
Heads modified to accept injectors?
MFI Pump drive belt
Drive gear on drivers side Camshaft

If your car was originally an MFI car, some of this may still be in place. Don't know what the costs are, but I recently had my 2.2S pump rebuilt by Pacific Fuel Injection ($850) and my throttle bodies rebuilt by Eurometrix ($670 - but I paid extra for linkage work).

I have a spare 2.2E setup available that came with my car if anyone is interested.

Hope this helps.

Webers? Probably about $1000 these days...

If you sell ALL of the Weber-related parts, including the fuel pump, as a package ... you can probably get $1000+ for the 'package!'

Likewise, it would be better to search specifically for a COMPLETE system, rather than just some of the parts from a dismantler with no real knowledge of MFI. Some of the systems advertised on eBay are misrepresentations at best, and willfully fraudulent attempts at maximizing profits by exploiting the ignorance of potential customers in others!!! The ideal system would include the relay panel with its' wiring and Speed Switch ... but the Speed Switch is the important required part, and the wiring is not complex.

If the MFI-system is in working condition when you get it ... rebuilding MAY not benecessary! And, if you do all of the assembly/disassembly work yourself, the net cost could very well be close to net zero!

My suggestion is to download and print ALL of the material in the following Pelican section, and spend a week or so reading and digesting it, then post some questions to clear up any missing info!
