Fuel Pump Wiring With Carbs

The way the fuel pump on my carburetor powered motor is currently hooked up, it runs continuously once the ignition is turned on. Since this presents an obvious safety problem in the event of a rear-end collision or engine compartment fire of some other origin, I was wondering if there is a way to wire the pump to operate only when the motor is running?

I did a search but didn't find this topic.

Trouble with this idea is starting the motor when cold. If you can't pump some fuel into the carbs before you hit the ignition/starter you'll have a bad time starting. There are two things you can do to improve safety: 1. wire a separate switch on the dash for the fuel pump so that you can easily shut it off. and 2. wire in an inertia switch to kill the pump in an impact.
