High Beam/Low Beam 1974 911

Okay since I never drive this car at night, I am unfamiliar with operating High/Low beams. I assume you push the stalk FORWARD (toward front of car) to turn on High Beams? When I do this, I lose All head lights. ALSO, if I pull back on the stalk (as if to FLASH) no headlights. I checked the fuses and they are all fine. I believe there is supposed to be a blue indicator light on the dash for high beams, this light does not come on either.

too much of a coincidence that the bulbs are burnt out? Is there a way to check the headlights, or should I start with the "turn signal switch quick fix" posted by WON?

Do the Won thing. 27MM socket to pull the wheel and a regular small to medium screwdriver to pull the shroud. Disconnect the battery as you will beep the horn when the brass thingie hits the spline shaft.

Use the John Walker suggestion then tweak this way and that to dial it in. Did it today. I was surprised how a little tweakage made a big difference. I also had a moment where the highs would not come on pushing forward or pulling back. Just reversed the tweak on the big bar and it finally fell into place.

More time looking at the Won photos than the job took itself.

So am I right?

Are the high beams supposed to engage by pushing the stalk forward?

Yes - push the stalk forward - toward you to flash

Where does this brown wire go?

Okay so I got the steering wheel off and am about to attempt to clean/bend/burnish the high beam and low beam switch when I found this random brown wire dangling loose. I can't find any evidence of where it should go...HELP!?

Note: it's the wire I'm pointing the screwdriver at.
Thanks!

It is just a ground wire...I once closed things up without hooking it up at all...and everything worked fine. Put it where Bob says.

Thanks for you help!

Everything works again! All cleaned up and back together. The hardest parts was turning the 25mm nut to remove the steering wheel, so I finally cut a piece of wood the right length from the wheel to the floor to stop it from turning...worked perfectly. I wonder what my next project is going to be??
