Fuchs Wheel ID and Pricing Info Please

Hi, I'm hoping I can get some info on this spare full set of 4 wheels & tyres I have.

Specifically exactly what they are and what they are worth.

They are in excellent condition and have a near new set of Pirelli Dragon tyres with at least 95% tread if not more.

I have never used them, they came as a spare set with my car that I purchased in October 2011, there are also spacers for the rear to fit a wide body using turbo steel flares that can go with them if needed.

I wanted to use the depth of knowledge on here regarding Fuchs wheels so that I make sure that I advertise them correctly and price them fairly if and when I decide to sell them.

Thank you in advance for any info you can provide, it is a huge help for those of us on here relatively new to the Porsche scene.

Front are 7 x 16 with Pirelli Dragon 205/55/16 tyres

Rear are 8 x 16 with Pirelli Dragon 225/50/16 tyres

Cheers Al

You have a set of real 7/8"x16" Fuchs that are 911 wheels which have some nice value
They are not original finish, someone has polished the lips and most likely reprinted centers
For the matched set I would think should get at least 2k for wheels I don't know value of tires
If you sell long distance shipping will be expensive due to weight of tires

Thank you, the wheels I can get shipped to the USA for around $400 AUD with Ship2Anywhere.com.au but I will probably try and sell here with the tyres if I decide to get rid of them.

The 8"s have a history of cracking.

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll have to see about having them inspected properly.

As I said I've never had them on the car they came with it as a spare set when I purchased it.

If they are cracked at the lug is it repairable or are they not worth the effort / cost?

Cheers Al

The cheapest to check for superficial flaws is with liquid penetrant inspection.

Do you have a brand name of a product I could purchase? I take that it is like a dye that shows if they are cracks or just scratches in the alloy from the lugs.

Magnaflux brand is a good one, the trade name for the product is Spotcheck. They sell a kit consisting of 16 ounce cans, 2 cleaners, one red penetrant dye and one developer. It is really very easy to use.
First you clean the area with the cleaner, then you apply the red dye, let it sit for some while (I do not remember how long), then with a rag and the cleaner you clean the area of the red dye, after that you apply the developer it is like chalk powder that absobs the red dye if there is a flaw. If there is a crack you will see a very dark red line.
There are other brands, but Magnaflux is the one I have used.
Just google for NDT penetrants and you will find a lot of info.

What did you ever end up doing with these rims? I have a buckled front 7" that needs replacing and, in the unlikely event you are happy to split them up, I'd be interested.

BTW did you get your car from Craig at rsrclassics? He offered it to me three days after I bought my Mexico Blue! It was a great car and for me was one of those D'Oh! moments.

Hi,

I had the wheels tested by my engineer for any cracks but there were none, it was just scratching in the aluminium where they had been taken on and off the studs. I still have the wheels but would only consider selling as a complete set.

Yes I got the car from Craig, we have been mates for ages and I knew the car but didn't know he had it for sale. When I sold my rally car I rang him to ask if he knew where I could get a 911 like his and the rest is history, got it last year in October, have done a heap of upgrades to it since then.

Cheers Al
