Intermittant clock?
 

My clock works about 50% of the time (which beats MY best efforts).

It will run for an hour, then stop. It will run again after I reset the time, then it goes on an extended break for hours or days. Was my VDO clock manufactured in the Caribbean? " No problem, man! Your clock be correct two times each and every day!".

If it would just quit, I'd replace it. If it was getting no juice, I'd investigate that route. My clock is living it up Jamaica style- No worry-No hurry.

Funny how things go.* I have thought about replacing mine with a large boost gage but seem to have the very, very rare working clock option. :rolleyes:
I think it's still pretty close to where I set it 3 years ago. :p
Given the limited number of these special clocks, I will have to use the boost controller display to get accurate boost numbers.

Mine stops when I leave it overnight in the cold. Never stops during late spring through early fall, but winter, forget it.....

I rememeber the same problem with the 356 we had....but the other question is, why do you need a clock? ;)

North Hollywood Speedo & clock offers this service...

Mine did the same. Took it apart and found a burned contact. Cleaned it up and worked fine for a while but finally gave up.

Sent it to Austin and www.speedometer.com and they fixed it fast and for a better price than the guys on the coast.

Depending on your budget, and how much you want this clock to work... Personally, when I am driving my Porsche, I could care less what time it is!

I plan on removing mine to put a vacuum guage when I find one of the same size.:cool:

Or a volt meter? WHY only an idiot light? That's been a question of mine for years...A lot of gauges that are more useful than a clock, IMHO.

I still have the original clock in my 78. I set my clock when I bought the car over three years ago. Aside from having to set set the time when the power is disconnected, it still keeps the correct time to the minute. I guess mine was the Timex version.

I've gotta say, my clock has worked flawlessly ever since I've owned the car... perhaps the PO paid up big to get a new one before my time.

The much maligned 1977 2.7 911S is the only model with a bullet proof clock. I just new there was an upside. Hmmmm.... Mine's worked from day one. I think is has something to do with the cyliner head studs.

356 Guru, Harry "The Maestro" Pellow, often mentions in his writings that when a prospective buyer is shopping for a 356, the clock (running) is the *first* thing one needs to check.
