Just a quick inquiry to whether and one has an early car (particularly '73.5 CIS T) with an SC 3.0 litre in it? My engine (2.4 CIS) is in great health, but maybe it would like a rest and a 3.0 liter dropping in its place.
![]() Love to hear if anyone has done this (easy, if you have a CIS T already) conversion, although no one comes to mind on the BBS who has. Maybe a few "lurkers" out there who have? Speak now, please! Love to hear how you view the performance, too - should be quite quick, right? TIA. ![]() |

A friend of mine bought his car this way. The biggest difference I noticed was it acceleration, as it pulls stronger and sooner than my SC, and is quite a bit lighter. It's got an estimated 220 hp due to it's exhaust and a switch to Webers. The previous owner switched fuel systems because he felt the CIS system wasn't giving him a throttle-response that matched the car's performance. (I personally would have kept the CIS, and will if I ever do a similar project some day - the gearing of the 915 on an early car should provide enough pep, imo). I don't know if the engine was modded during the swap with cams or some such.
I think the brakes were upgraded to S calipers at the front, which my friend doesn't feel are up to the job after owning the car a while. This upgrade is discussed a lot here, and I recall Roland Kunz saying that the wiring harnesses would be the toughest part. Emanuel

Thanks, Emanuel.
![]() Yeah, I did a search for 3.0 litre conversions, just wondering if there's any 2.4 CIS T owners that did it too. Still on the lookout for a 2.0 S BTW? |

Saffs, still looking but I've given up on my deadline (July of this year). Finding an SC was much easier than finding a pre-1970, pre-galvanized car in good unmodified condition for a decent price. The GF is very much against the idea of a restoration project, and I've got to say I'm not too big on it either since the RR is still a WIP, but the 2 best cars we've seen in terms of condition and price were unfinished restos.
The weird part? We've seen some gorgeous, wonderfully cared-for 912s from the same time frame with excellent prices. Amazing how cherished these cars are, while the SWB 911s are going neglected and hacked up for (imo) ill-thought out upgrade/update kits. These 911s are the Jan Brady of the Porsche family, with the post-69 cars as Marcia and the 912 as Cindy. Emanuel

3.0L Conversion
Saffs,
Mine was not a CIS,(2.4e MFI) but I just got a call from my mechanic, and I know have a 3.0L CIS. Biggest things I had to do were change the fuel pump to be compatible with the CIS. I am havinga few other things done so I will not be able to tell you my reactions until mid week. But my mechanic says it is great. I took the SSI from my 2.4 and put them on the 3.0L. This helps with the low end and HP. I will let you know when it finally comes home ![]()
