Painting Fuch wheels

My track wheels were looking a little worse for wear so I decided to try painting them. First thing I did was get Norton 000 scrubbing pads from Lowes and started scuffing each wheel. Total time was around 2.5 hours.
The first picture was how the wheel looked before sanding. The second picture is after sanding.

The third and fourth photos just show how I masked the wheels.

I forgot to take a picture of a primed wheel. The last photo is the final product. I may try clear on top. I used Dupli-Colour gloss black. Hopefully it will last.

I just did a similar job, but used a semi-flat paint. I found that electrical tape is easy for the edges, as it bends and flexes. Also, tinfoil makes the valve stem a breeze. Finally, quarters fit perfectly in the lug holes while you are painting. When drying, just turn the wheel over and punch them out. They create a perfect unpainted lug hole, that is not visible after the lugs are back on.
The semi-flat, leaves the rim and the tire, as similar shade of black, so the whole wheel looks the same color.

Just make sure all the paint is removed from the bolt holes or the lug nuts will not seat properly.

Thanks for the tip. I can sand that area. I thought I could put the nuts on and off a couple of times. The paint isn't that thick.

Save the tape...get an old deck of cards and wedge them around under the rim overlapping as you go...works great and re useable...you can put news papers under them without tape also if you are a spastic painter

Brian...If you like I can get them powder coated for approximately $ 60 each. Any color you like as long as its one color.

Final result

I finally finished painting my track rims. I used dupli-colour gloss black and then used dupli-colour clear. For spray cans it came out o/k from 5 ft. away. I'll see how long it lasts.

That will work fine.
