How hot does it run!

With all the pieces of threads about "my car runs hot" I thought I'd open it up again.

My 72 E with Euro 2.7 p/c's got up to about 220 today at the end of an hours worth of spirited parts chasing around town. Were up by Chicago and I suspect Les Paul guy and Ep are out and about as well. I'd guess its 90 plus although the forcast was only for 85-87.

I'll admit it would have stayed around 200-205 (maybe less- it got hotter the more I struck out in my parts chasing if you know what I mean!)if I drove it like my wife would. So I guess its doing pretty well, oh no front cooler although I will get one someday.

Still had 60 psi of oil pressure at 3500rpm so thats good as well.

So I guess this is proof that a 2.7 can live when its hot.

Get out and drive its nice out!

I think it was mid-80s around here today. Typically, my 2.5 runs right at 180. Today, I did a sustained run of around 90MPH for an hour or so and it stayed just under 210. -- Curt

It was a beautiful thing. Didn't have the radar detector so I was trailing about a 1/4 mile behind this a little Geo Prizm or something for mile after mile. The 70MPH Interstate turns to a 55MPH state highway for about 15 miles. It is heavily patroled all the time. I slowed way back. The econobox kept going and about 3 miles later, there's Johnny Law with the laser gun. Nails this guy -- had to be 90 in a 55!!! Hopefully, he got a ticket for stupidity as well. -- Curt

I get at about 220 around a sustained 90 mph in 90 degrees. This is a '73.5 CIS T, no oil cooler up front....
I keep forgetting to go 55 mph in those sections of highway. In the UK motorways are 70 mph everywhere, and you can go 80+ all day and you won't get stopped - unless you're doing something silly. I'm still in that mode, and I'm going to get caught - time to get a detector....

normally 220 in the summer (90+), and 180 in the winter.
Although yesterday she hit 230...so it's an oil change today.
