Voltage regulator/alternator questions

I was having some low voltage issues on my 1981 930 (described in a different thread) but am now very confused after digging more into it. My understanding was that for a 1981 and newer car, the voltage regulator is supposed to be internal to the alternator. When I took my alternator to the shop to get tested, they said this alternator (Bosch Remanufactured AL9341X, 788 00507 put on by the previous owner) is externally regulated. I can't see any black box looking thing on my engine bay wall (see pic).

So I have three questions
1. Does my car have the wrong alternator?
2. If not, where is the voltage regulator?
3. Will an externally regulated alternator even work if there is no external regulator?

I am no expert, but on a hunch with my german translation, the generatorregler, sounds a lot like "generator regulator." Looking in the PP catalog, this item seems to have the same part number, although its appearance is different. Would be nice to know what brand alternator you have.

You might be right, Thanks! Alternator = Bosch Remanufactured AL9341X, 788 00507 put on by the previous owner

There is no doubt that the harness with the blue wire there is plugged into a alternator regulator as the previous poster stated.

That is the alternator for the 1974-1977 Porsche 911

you can buy a brand new bosch, with internal for the SC. for $264 on a popular website with a lifetime warranty and 2 years of road side. So don't go down the reman route. You don't have to spend $500 for a new one...
