Cam question

Do you have to change the rocker when changing cams?? I was told that if you don't they will wear out the new cams, is there any truth to this?? Thanks(agian)

You should recondition the rockers at the very least. Keep new or reconditioned rockers with new or reconditioned camshafts. Keep old camshaft lobes with the rockers that they have been wearing with.

Yes, it's true.

As it was described to me, both the rockers and the cam "wear harden". A new cam will be softer than the old rockers so the the rockers will wear/cut the cam instead the them both "wearing in" together.
A few years ago I ordered some rebuild parts, a new cam and reconditioned rockers from a certain disreputable California engine builder. When all my parts arrived their were no rockers. To make do, I used my old rockers and removed the wear hardened surface with abrasive. I am not recommending this, but it did work.
