Foglights and other electrical gremlins
Hi
I'm working through a few electrical issues with a 73.5 911. I've had the alternator rebuilt and replaced the VR with a solid state version. This cured alt light on always. This morning I noticed that the alt light glowed weakly at idle - this is the first time I have seen this since replacing the alternator/VR?? Foglights: Pulling the FL switch I don't get lights or the red indator on the switch to light. If I jump power from fuse 1 directly to the FL fuse (8 I think) I get lights on. The relay appears to be OK: I swap it for the horn relay and the horn works. Turn signals/fuel gauge: With turn signals on, the fuel gauge bounces in sync Ignition switch: I have to have the key in just the right position to energize the starter. Does this indicate the key is worn, or the switch is going south? Appreciate suggestions. Charles |

Electrics
Sounds like an earthing problem.
There are a group of earth connections, behind or around the car radio. ( They tend to break). look there first, alternatively, clip an independent earth to the gauge etc and see if this cures your problem. As for the ignition switch, I suggest that you buy a replacement at Porches grossly inflated prices, or check the non genuine route. Fuse connections are generally an issue for lighting problems. I replaced my fuseboxes with the blade type, a bit of a fiddle, but cost me about £15... $25? |
