White smoke...lots and lots of White smoke

I've got an '81 SC and twice in the past couple of months, after a hard drive and 5 minutes after getting off the freeway, I have made a huge cloud of white smoke that eventually stops and then no smoke at all, even on start up! Incidently, while the cloud is being made, the car will barely idle. By the way, the oil level is down one quart. I took off the air filter cover and mixture boot and found a small puddle of oil below the the sensor plate. I interpreted this as oil getting through the breather hose. Does that make sense? Thanks for your comments!

One theory is your oil level is too high; oil heats up and expands in volume during the hard drive (it actually expands quite a bit) then as you're turning around the off-ramp you slosh oil over into the airbox through the vent hose. Then your car is ingesting oil and emulating a 2-cycle engine for a few minutes . You say your car is a quart low. Do you mean a quart down from the max level mark on the dipstick? When and how are you checking the oil? The engine should be at operating temperature and idling with the car level when checking the oil. To avoid slosh over problems the oil level such read halfway between the max and min marks. Cheers, Jim
