changing 1979 SC fuel line

I would like to know change the fuel line in my SC.
I bought the front polyline that goes from the fuel tank because my old one was weeping fuel. It connects to a second fuel line and the junction should be somewhere near the shifter.

Look in front of the shifter tunnel. You may have to remove the front pan that covers the steering guts. That's where your fuel lines exit from the rear. I don't believe there are any junctions inside the vehicle.

Mine was apart in the garage so I went out and took a picture of it. I have the steering rack, cross-member and cover plate removed. This is behind where the steering rack is mounted. This car is a 1986 3.2 Carrera so there may be some minor variation.

The fuel line terminates behind the brass 90 degree fitting. You can see the rubber fittings that seal them to the tunnel. The lines through the tunnel are polymer lines and they make bends right after they come out of the tunnel. I'm replacing mine with aluminum lines.

The two hard lines visible in the picture are the brake lines. The one through the tunnel is the rear brake circuit. The other is the front circuit. You're looking directly up through the smugglers box.

The rear of the car is at the bottom of the pic and the front is at the top. I also have it rotated counter clockwise about 30 degrees - sorry.

Hope this helps.

Hal

Greyes,

Both the delivery and return fuel lines for the SC's have fittings (connections) outside the tunnel. These are located by the front firewall as shown in the previous post and the rears are located above the transmission mount bracket/support. To replace these fuel line/s, pull it from the front side and attach a nylon string so you could use it to install the replacement fuel line. Removal of the shifter assembly and transmission linkage cover would give you a good view of the fuel line/s during installation or removal. Do you have the OEM fuel line?

Here's another shot of the front where they enter the tunnel..........

and one of the rear..............

It helps to support the trans and remove the tranny mount to access these tunnel lines.

Pull up the center carpet and you can see both ends of the tunnel. You can leave the shifter in place. Buy new rubber grommets from our host, then push the old grommets into the tunnel and that will give you room enough to pull the old lines out the front. You can easily retrieve the old grommets from the inside.

As above, you need to tape a nylon cord to the rear of the old line and pull it forward & out. Attach the cord to the new line to pull it back in the tunnel & fit the new grommets.

Repeat the process for the 2nd line.

Good luck.

Len

Just curious, what is the third line going into the tunnel from the front?

The hard line with the 90 deg Brass fitting is for the rear brake circuit.
