Bought a 1975 whale tail. How can I tell if it is factory?
Seller stated it was original lid on a turbo. I can not find anywhere on the tail where it says Porsche or has the Porsche logo.

Drew,
The factory tail for the 3.0 Turbo (as well as the '74-76 Carrera), has an alloy frame. Can be hard to see, usually at the booton edge or near the lockpin. GeorgeK |

On 3 different bases I have had (Turbo base and Carrera) there was the word 'Porsche' embossed in the base at the rear. In other words, face the car from the rear, bend over slightly and look below the rubber lip at the base, and in the center you will see the stamp. My understanding was that all the bases like this had these markings.
Let me know if you need a picture,

Tom,
Absolutely, on more modern rubbers and hoods. But the older ones (before 1980) didn't necessarily have the logo. I bought some prubber lips and tails from the importer a few years ago and they didn't have the logo. GeorgeK |

I had a 75 930 factory tail. It didn't have any logo on it. It also had a steel frame and was beautifuly hand laid fiberglass.

I'm thinking this is a OE tail:

The Carrera and Turbo tails are different (yes, in 1975). The Carrera Tail didn't have the extra vent in the tail. The Carrera tail is shown on page 199 in 101 Projects...

Also a 1975 Turbo tail would have to come off of a European car. What you have is probably a Carrera tail...

Mine has the 2nd, small vent.
Would the Porsche logo be on the lip and the lid? Wayne, Do you have replacement, aftermarket, lips for this style tail?
