Transmission Guide Fork Plate - R&R

I have a small weep from the guide fork plate on the gearbox. I have a new gasket and a jug of Swepco, but two small questions.

1. Would a thin layer of gasket sealant be appropriate here, or not?
2. If I remove the plate with the gear selector in neutral and refrain from poking around in the gearbox, will the plate go back on correctly, in the sense that all four gears and reverse will be selectable when I have buttoned it up?

Thank you.

It is not required but the only downside I see is scraping the next time it comes off. Just use the non-hardening Permatex if you go that route.

I used gasket shellac on my engine case breather cover since it is hard to get to with CIS in place. Probably overkill and I will pay for that insurance next time engine is out.
