Question 5 amp fuses ??

re '87 911:
My local auto parts dealers don't seem to have 5 amp euro fuses. My radio fuse blew. It's a 5 amp. everyone has 8, 16, 25 amp. anybody else run into this? know where to get them without lots of shipping charges or Porsce dealer $5 /fuse type cost?

I believe a couple of the 5 Amp fuses still come on those Bosch 'assortment' cards that are available from many sources. A switchable aircraft-type circuit breaker is also another long-term solution for the 5 Amp circuits.

Find out why the fuse blew and whatever you do don't put in a higher rated fuse for the "time being". To do so is a good way to damage the wiring harness. Good luck. Jim

Here's where I'll recommend making sure you have a supply of fuses for your car. The ones for my car, a copper strip stretched over a plastic/ceramic thing, are not available everywhere. They're not impossible to find, but Wal Mart is simply not going to have them, and even your typical auto parts chain store is not going to have them either. So, find some and keep them in your glove compartment, next to the corkscrew/ bottle opener.

All good advice!
I think I KNOW why it blew. I noticed radio wont work. So, found the blown fuse, then looked it up in chart: radio, clock, etc. Well, I pulled my clock a few days earlier and accidently shorted the hot lead to gauge case. small spark. that probably did it. local Porsche dealer promised me he'd sell them to me reasonable price like a few bucks for say 5-6. I'll try him as all local parts places have all but the 5 amp size. Although, I think the Porsche dealer in Palm Beach charges a $100/visit parking fee or something like that! Ha!

BTW, I did have a supply on hand from a mix bag: only had 8,16,25 though. No 5's.

Just curious. What makes you think that the 5 amp fuse is really suppose to be in there ?? Generally the Euro fuses come in 3 flavors. Colored coded Red=16A -White=8A -Blue=25A.

Get mine at the local Pep Boys or Auto Zone @ $2.50 for and asstort. and any MBZ dealer, naturally a little higher.

What color is a 5A ?? never seen one. Also, every radio I've seen has it's own fuse holder in line with the +12V lead and generally use a BUS fuse. My Blau does anyway.

Just bought some 5 amps the other day from Oriley. The ceramic is yellow. They didn't have any other value besides the 5's though.

this one is for the clock, radio, and interior lights. the radio and int lights dont work right now. funny though, the clock still works and I'm sure that when I shorted the clock I blew this fuse. anyway, the fuse listing with my manuals says 5A. there are about 6 listings with 5A actually.

Cool 5 amp fuses

If the pelicanparts guys don't have the 5 amp fuses, try ***********. George usually keeps them in stock.
