Judging by recent posts, seems like 911s in ATL are having a lot of electrical problems lately...
I have done a quick search of the archives, but wanted to throw this out for some input. I have an '88 3.2 Carrera that won't start. Turned the key this morning, car started and everything was fine just for a second, then things went dead. Turn the switch now and the gauges are the only thing that I have found will work. No starter, no solenoid, nothing. Pull the light switch and the gauges go dead. Have checked my grounds and battery connections and all look good. Fuses check out, too. Checked behind the dash to make sure everything's plugged in. Don't have a meter, so can't check the battery. A recent major service I did included a new OEM alternator. My "60 month" battery is 2 years old, although I know that doesn't mean it's still good. I put it on my trickle charger so i can hopefully limp up to the auto parts store in the morning for a load test and replacement. Sound like just a dead battery or something more? Ignition switch, perhaps? Thanks, Chris 1988 Carrera Coupe 1999 Vintage 550 Spyder |

Chris,
Sounds like its time to invest in a digital volt ohm meter! Cannot do much troubleshooting without one but you seem on track with the ignition switch. As it is, you can turn the ignition on and then lights and see if they get real dim, which would help point to the battery but you really need a meter to do much... Joe
