It was a 2000 2.7. I would not swap my 87 911 for one, but it was pretty nice. I might get one as a daily driver if I get a decent $ for my '94 Acura Legend GS. My 911 is a weekend car. Just like in motorcycles where 1000 cc's is enough, it was fast enough for this old dog, and other than the fact that the S would win in a peeing contest, I cannot justify the $ difference. I see alot of silver Boxsters out there and they look nice, but I prefer the Ocean Blue color. Anyone else out there tempted by the Boxster? Anyone know where an Ocean Blue is for sale at a reasonable price in SE PA?

Tom,
They are only slightly less nausiating than that awful thing on the cover of Excellence called a Ruf! A truly grotesque front end, entirely too much like a Taurus/Eclipse mating!!! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

At the Rennsport Reunion there was a parking area for Boxsters. There must have been 50-60 essentially identical cars all lined up in 2 rows - looked sort of like the lease-return area at Porsche North America. But what I found briefly amusing were the people closely examining one Boxster after another as they walked down the rows. I mean, other than the different colors, what were they looking at/for? I was trying to imagine the conversations: "hey Brandon, look at this one! He's got the carbon-look power window buttons. Tight!!!!!" or "Dude! check this - a titanium license plate holder!!!!" OK, call me cruel.

Yeah, looked at the boxster awhile back. too much money for a generic.. Won't look at toyota...too ugly. NO! on the maita...just not fast. So we bought the honda s2000... now just waiting for delivery. Silver with red interior. matches the 911.

Wow Warren, that's pretty rough (pun intended).
I've been able to drive a 2001 Boxster S several times (there's one in my family now). I'd have to say that it's a nice car, and would be perfect as a daily driver, but I'd have to have an old air cooled 911 for the days when I wanted to enjoy driving. I've toyed with the idea of selling my car, and picking up a recent off lease 986... but I know that I'd regret it. The subtle integration between car and driver is missing in the 986. It feels more Japanese than German (I do need to mention that even though the interior, motor, transmission and nuances are un-Porsche, the stereo still sucks like a Porsche)! I have a 911 because I love the way it looks, the way it feels, and even the way it smells. The 986 is an excellent car that I'd love to ADD to my stable, but it could never satisfy me the way my 911 does. my 2 cents... ![]() ------------------ Dan Tolley 1987 911 Coupe http://www.cheaterswayside.com/911/gallery.asp?sort=0&userid=294 |

The question was about whether the Boxster is/was ever tempting. No. Just about the same question as whether or not you would take the car or cash in a contest or game show.

These are all valid points.
But would you do this with your 911? ![]() Finally, a good reason to buy a 986! ------------------ Dan Tolley 1987 911 Coupe http://www.cheaterswayside.com/911/gallery.asp?sort=0&userid=294 |

I know what its like. Was at the local Porsche dealer about a month ago looking around at the new BoxsterS. Really nice looking car. Was actually having thoughts about selling my 930, spending a few extra bucks and going for the new machine. I then looked up across the parking lot and saw my car sitting there. Bright Red, Wide Rear, Almost Snarling at me. No contest!!!
I did however take that extra money and splurge on a mint 1964 356SC. No Regrets. Gary ------------------ ghanlon |

I guess the trailer hitch bolts to the optional HD exhaust outlet, right?

I have driven both the Boxster 2.7 and the "S". I liked them very much. A Boxster S with a competent pilot at the wheel can easily dust most of our geriatric 911's.
That said, I too would take a mint 356 over a Boxster, like Gary posted above. (Hey Gary, post a picture of your "tub".) ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website |

I have to agree with Warren. If someone handed me the keys to a Boxster S, it would be on my street corner with a "FOR SALE" sign on it before you could say "Soccer Moms". Who happen to be the people who drive Boxsters out here (when they're not ferrying the entire neighborhood around in their Ford Incursions).
Ever notice how some of the more "stylish" cellphones look like a Boxster? With the proceeds from the sale--well, I could do a lot of things! Maybe a Beck Spyder and an early-70's RS project car. ------------------ blue '81 SC Targa |

I'd drive one - as long as I got to keep my Targa.
I think they're OK. I would seriously consider buying a used one or lease return as a daily driver. I want to drive one. ------------------ Mark Szabo 1986 911 Targa 3.2 1987 Escort 5-speed 1.9 RIP The Porsche Owners Gallery |

I don't mind driving a 13year old car but spouses aren't always so accomodating. I take comfort in knowing that when she heads out for a trip, the car will be making it home. And an engineering degree is not required to adjust the cabin temperature.

jc,
You don't have to explain to anyone. Enjoy the 911 and the Boxster. You have the best of both worlds! ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website |
