Evap circuit on a 1970
Hi Guys
I have been cleaning the air intake tin for a carburetted induction system (Zeniths). The lines in question are shown in these 2 photos. ![]() ![]() I am assuming they are for unburned fuel vapours from the charcoal canister. The 2nd photo shows one of the outlets. Both sides appear to be plugged with something much harder than years of accumulated crud. I poked at them with a dental pick but backed off in case I was damaging some unknown or unseen part at the end of these tubes. I've done a search & haven't found a suitable explanation. Do these tubes have some kind of orifice restriction or are they just flat out gunked up & need to be completely cleared & cleaned? Thanks & Cheers JB

It's been 40 years since I had those lines on my 70. I believe you are concerned about the thin line at the back of the filter housing and the attached lines inside. If memory serves me, I believe that is part of a fuel enrichment circuit at closed throttle/start that is part of the emissions control junk. I think there is a microswitch on the carb linkage that activates it. I removed all of it long ago with no issues. Or you can leave it on. Oh, and I believe the ends of the lines are factory sealed.
